So you think you want to be an entrepreneur, or maybe you already are. Either way, there are certain things we need to do in order to be successful because it won’t happen without discipline!
Today I want to share 3 of 10 steps I’ve learned that you can implement today to experience success in your venture.
Don’t Work in Vain
There are two types of billionaires; those who inherited their wealth, and those who build it from nothing.
If you’re like me, I’m on a path to be the latter of the two. Passion is essential for a budding entrepreneur, but profit must be your second motivation. I’ll never forget when our accountant told us if we didn’t turn a profit soon the IRS might look at our business as a hobby.
A hobby! Talk about a wake-up
call, I could pursue a less expensive hobby.
In the early stages of working your vision make sure the bottom line and your process to get there are top priority!
Keep Your Head Down
I remember when we opened Candy Connections. There were so many deliverable's to consider and everyone had advice and recommendations it was very easy to get distracted.
As young girls, we are instructed to keep our heads up, but as an adult pursuing purpose, I’ve learned to keep my head down. Working your vision requires tunnel vision focus and eliminating distractions is a must. Temporarily disabling social media allowed me to focus 100% on our venture.
Find Your Tribe
Your family or friends may not be your biggest supporters, and that’s okay. Step outside your comfort zone and identify the support you need to be successful. I recommend connecting with local business women groups. Know in advance what you’re looking for and have a system in place to apply new resources.
Identify your tribe, your target market, your niche and love on them!
This year we celebrate six years in business, and it wasn't without set-backs, prayer, redirection, frustration, highs and lows. If you've been following our family story you know we welcomed our baby boy, Lennox into our family during the busiest season in our business. I can’t wait to share with you additional tips that we’ve learned through trial and error. I’m sure we have a lot in common, and I’m thrilled to be on this journey of successful entrepreneurship with you.
